Scientia: Research at the University of Tennessee

About Scientia

Scientia is the research magazine for the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Pronounced "skee-EN-tee-uh," scientia is Latin for "knowledge, acquaintance, or skill," and is derived from the verb scire, "to know" or "to understand."

The mission of Scientia is:

  • to celebrate the understandings achieved in research, scholarship, and creative activity at the university
  • to honor the faculty, staff, and students who brought those accomplishments about, and
  • to share that knowledge with the people of Tennessee and the nation who have a stake in the university's success.
